Bill 29: An Act to amend the Occupational Health and Safety Act to protect workers from harassment and violence in the workplace

Every day this silence epidemic of bullying and harassment of workers affects people in their life, and unless you have protection maybe through a union, there is nobody and really absolutely nobody who can help you to protect yourself from this kind of silent violence. The reason nothing can be done and why employers don't act on it and ignore it, is because it is not yet illegal.Bullying is four times more common than sexual harassment or racial discrimination, and there is no protection because it doesn't fall under the Human Rights Commission of Canada.
"Adult bullies, like their schoolyard counterparts, tend to be insecure people with poor or non-existent social skills and little empathy. They turn this insecurity outwards, finding satisfaction in their ability to attack and diminish the capable people around them. A workplace bully subjects the target to unjustified criticism and trivial fault-finding. In addition, he or she humiliates the target, especially in front of others, and ignores, overrules, isolates and excludes the target.
If the bully is the target's superior, he or she may: set the target up for failure by setting unrealistic goals or deadlines, or denying necessary information and resources; either overload the target with work or take all work away (sometimes replacing proper work with demeaning jobs); or increase responsibility while removing authority.
Regardless of specific tactics, the intimidation is driven by the bully's need to control others." (Canada Safety Council, 2000). There is no place for a bully in a well run organisation.
Thanks to the help of my silent partner ( that's what they will be know as for now), I came across this Bill 29, which is an act to amend the Occupational Health and Safety Act to protect workers from harassment and violence it the workplace.
I am asking anybody and everybody to please support this private member bill. I will also be carrying a copy of a petition to be signed with me to collect signatures to help pass this bill and turn into a law.
Just remember you are not immune to this by all means, and if it happens to you, you do not want to be alone, but as of right now you are the lone person at the bottom with no support and help from anybody.
Harassment poisons a workplace, it takes on many forms, sexual and sexist, racist, verbal, physical, intimidation and bullying, and it should not be tolerated.
