Seniors

In my job at the Community Centre and even on volunteer Open Days at the Donkey Sanctuary I have to deal with Seniors, sometimes it can be a little bit trying but for most of the time I love it. I love talking with them, hearing their stories from long time ago, the things they had and what their live was like back then. To mind came a group from a Seniors home that came to visit the DSC and how much they had to share about their live on a farm, some of them even had donkeys and their eyes just light up when they talked. For me, my grandparents, played a huge role in my life. I loved visiting them, having them visit and just do things with them. Vacations were spent at their place or they would take us grandkids with them when they went, and those are absolute great childhood memories. I was happy to have my grandparents around even when I was grown up, and they all at least met my boys, but only one set met my daughter. I used to have a great grandma too way into my teens. Sadly my kids don't have much to do with their grandparents, with my parents it was distance and with the other ones, well just lack of interest by them. It makes me sad, because I just know how much my grandparents meant to me, and I don't think it's the same for my children.
I think the youth nowadays doen't give as much respect to our elders as it was a way of being in my time and growing up, but then some of them don't give respect much to anything anymore and that really bothers me, which brings me to an email I received this morning from a friend about a seniors moment....oh how true it is and good for your senior moments, they need to have more of those.

That was an amazing email, LOL. It is so true, there is a general lack of respect with newer generations, and it makes me very sad. When I work with kids I try my best to guide them in the correct direction but you can only do so much. Most of it is up to the parents, and we all know what some of those are like, lol
