Moving Day!

The day has finally arrived, we all have been waiting patiently for this big moment. It's been a long haul from the first day when the big machinery rolled in on a sunny day in October..
to the excavation of the rolling hills at the DSC Farm to the days when the cement trucks had to be pulled by tractor up to the site because it was too muddy and slippery for them to get up there...
to when the first posts where put in and the site slowly started to look like a building....
to the day when the roof was erected and from then on it was just full speed ahead...
Almost done...the walls are up, the windows and doors are in, this is the view from the boutique,
the north side with the two wind protected entrances for the two donkey groups, one being the rowdy boys and the other being the girls plus some mild mannered boys.
The wind protected south side will be a welcoming place for the donkeys to hang out and surely will be their favourite spot on a sunny day. It will over look the old barn and the paddocks past Halfway Haven. Not sure if it will be accessible yet for the donkeys as it still needed some leveling of the ground and more fencing. The support beams have all been wrapped with metal, so that our donkey beavers can't chew on the wooden posts.
The final touches...putting in fencing to split up the herd and paddocks. The possibilities will be endless in rearranging groups and areas. We have been lucky with the mild winter as who would have ever thought one could get fence posts into the ground in the middle of January.
And then Friday afternoon the donkeys checked out their new home. Cargo was the first donkey boy to check it out and to the surprise of all, Daisy was the first girl, all bets were on Juliet. Sunshine, Bolivar and some of the girls on the girls' side....

Some of the boys on their side...
Apollo still looking a little skeptical....
It is such a joyous occasion to have them finally in their new home, it's been a rough ride and everything should be happy....I am happy that Hershey, Indiana and Donny have joined the rest of the rowdy boys and are not so isolated anymore from the rest of the gang. It's one big happy donkey family again. It will be so nice and cosy in there for them, with a hot bed in place, automated heated water bowls and lots of light. I hope they all have had a good first night in their new home. FINALLY!!!!

Well from what I heard when office staff arrived this morning, there was not a single donkey in the field, even though it was a gorgeous day!
