Oh I wonder....

Sometimes I wonder if the people who make products for certain purposes even ever tried them out to see if they work and if so then what the heck is then wrong with your instructions. Well three days we wasted of this weekend with the construction of a hoist for the hardtop of my jeep, according to the instruction it was suppose to take two hours and even though it is up now, I am not convinced that it will fulfill its purpose. We bought this hoist to lift of the hardtop and then store it suspended in air, so it's out of the way, sounds simple enough and what a great idea. The hoist suppose to hold over 400 lbs, no problem there, the hardtop isn't that heavy it's just awkward. So we started installing the hoist, we had already some pre-existing help to make the whole thing a lot easier, or so we thought.The only obstacle was that the chain was too long and it had to be cut down, which was very awkward and hard work, because it's high up in the ceiling of the garage. Everything installed, everything looked great, just like the instructions. Hanged on a bike just to test it, wham.... ripped the motor right of the wall. Great we thought. Next idea was to install the motor of the pulley right into the concrete wall, so out we went got the right concrete bolts, drilled the wall, wasted the motor to the wall, attached a few safety hooks and voila, it worked. Great one would think... well the next day was the real test, backed the Jeep into the garage, loosened all the bolts of the roof and attached the rack that was attached to the pulley and started to lift the roof of... up and away it went... well it went.... hanging there on the ceiling, nice and level... piece of cake... well until we looked at the bolts in the wall and the motor. Don't get me wrong it's still all attached just totally bent out of shape. So needless to say, I didn't trust the whole contraption anymore, the roof is hanging on the ceiling like it was meant to be and the new Jeep is sitting outside. Well we thought we let it hang there a few days, and hopefully if it hasn't come down then, it won't come down. Now that's our thought process at this moment. I just wonder if a hoist which is constructed for this sole purpose of suspending a hardtop in midair, won't hold, what is it made for then?.................now installing the soft top of the jeep that was a whole new story in itself.
