Dec 20: Somber mood at Staff Christmas party

Today was the Christmas get together of the DSC Staff. After a long day at work we all sat down together for dinner, however the mood was somber tonight and everybody's thoughts were back at the farm, where every effort was made to save the life of one of our Mini mules, as she coliced in the late afternoon. Saucy is one of the animals that is brought into the barn every night, as she was tonight, but upon entering her stall she behaved differently than any other night so it was obvious that something was wrong and within minutes of being in the stall she displayed the most typical symptoms of colic in equines, she was lying down more than usual, was repeatedly getting up and lying down, rolled and curled up the upper lip, the vet was called and arrived immediately, even though she herself was sicker than anything with the flu. Now Saucy is one of the hardest to handle animals at the DSC, so that they could even treat her accordingly was a miracle in itself. She responded well to treatment and hopefully will get better. So all our thoughts and prayers went out tonight to our little Saucy.

Saucy was doing well as of last night. Scary so how fast that can go and a lot of times colic is fatal if not treated immediately.
She definitely will stay under observation for a while, but as said she seems to be doing fine. Thank God.
