Bhangra and Belly dance!

My favourite thing about Zumba is the fusion of Zumba with movements of Bhangra and Belly dance. I love the music, the movements, and it sure is pure fun, one can't help but be in the mood for dance. Bhangra is a form of dance and music that originated in the Punjabi region. Bhangra dance began as a folk dance conducted by Punjabi Sikh famers to celebrate the coming of the harvest season. The specific moves of Bhangra reflect the manner in which villagers farmed their lands. The folk dance has ben popularised in the Westerns World by Punjabi and is seen in the West as an expression of South Asian culture as a whole. Today Bhangra dances survives in different forms and styles all over the globe, including pop music, film soundtracks and cultural shows. Belly dance is the name commonly used in Western countries to apply to traditional Middle Eastern dance. Most of the movements in belly dancing involves isolating different parts of the body (hips, shoulders, chest, stomach etc.), similar to the isolation used in jazz ballet. In much of belly dance there is a focus upon the core muscles of the body producing the movement rather than the external muscles of the body.
This is right now my all time favourite routine...

Interesting background of the movements! Right now, I can barely wiggle, let alone do any of those moves! Must be doing wonders for your figure!

makes my knees hurt just looking at it. I'm glad, though, that you have found something that active that you enjoy so much. It can only do you a world of good.

Joan and Shari, you should try Zumba, first of all it's all fun, not too serious, and too it's for all ages.....so one is never too young or too old to do it. Hey if I can do it, anybody can.
