Memories Part 1

As I was sitting in Janice's office the other day and was admiring the view of Lake Erie and the water hitting the bottom of her property, I thought about the places I lived in my life. Strangely looking at the lake and it being so huge that you don't see the other side on it makes me think more of an ocean rather than a lake and I asked her if she felt like being on vacation all the time or if you just get used to it being there? I remember when I lived in a tiny bavarian town in the middle of the Alps, I felt like I was on vacation all the time. It was like school and work was just something you had to do during the day, but as soon as I left the perspective buildings I felt like being on vacation, probably more though as it was a tourism area and was buzzing with tourists most of the time, except for the quiet month of November, when it was like a ghost town and nothing was happening at all. I remember countless times skipping class to go hiking or bike riding or taking in the sights of the surroundings, do the things that people do that come to this place for vacations, like visiting the castles like Schloss Linderhof and Neuschwanstein, taking boat tours on the lakes, and just pretend to be on vacation. I think that made the whole time very relaxing and enjoyable there, even though I had to get a second job ( a real job, my other was one just an apprentiship and paid only peanuts) to keep up with my "tourist" life style. My favourite place was one of the  smaller lakes up in the mountains, it was just such a beautiful tranquil place, mostly I hiked up there and walked around the little lake to hike back down a very narrow neat little path. I just loved going there. Even though I saw the mountains every day, it was every day I stood outside and just starred at them with awe. As beautiful as the mountains were on a bright sunny day, they seemed a little bit spooky on rainy or gloomy days.

Thank you for posting about living in the Alps. I know you must have more memories to share?! hint hint I can only imagine how stunning the scenery is. According to my daughter who went to Germany twice now, she said the people of Bavaria are very friendly. One of these days I am going to visit there. One of the things on my bucket list is to see the castles with my own eyes!

Where did you daughter go in Bavaria? Did she go to Nuremberg too?

No, she didn't go to Nuremburg. She was in Munchen, Salzburg, and a few other places. She went with her German Language class and they saw all of King Ludwigs castles, Dachau, Hofbrehaus ( spelling), Olympic Stadium, BMW factory, a lot of the churches and other places. Yes, the tourist places! She really wants to go to Vienna and see the riding school. Heck, I want to see it too! Are you going to post more about your life there?
