It really doesn't take much to make my day!

Yesterday was an absolutely gorgeous day to spend outside with the donkeys on the farm. I got there my usual time 9:30 am and was greeted by Donkeschoen, who was itching for an ear scratch. I spent about 10 minutes there at the fence and then made my way down to the barn. Everybody was out enjoying the warm sun. I asked Adam if there was anything particular he wanted to get done today, and he told me I could muck out the stalls and top them off with fresh straw, then the usual cleanup and then treat time. Woo hoo., you don't have to tell me about treats twice, being a sucker for them myself. But first things first, I always rather do the not so nice things first and keep the best for last, but that's just me. I mucked out for stalls and went upstairs in the barn to toss some straw bundles down the shoot. Funny as soon as the donkeys and sheeps hear the new straw falling down, they come running and love to chew on it. The donkeys were easy to get of the bundles of straw, but the goat Cocoa thought he had a claim to them, he would let me take two but there was not way I was getting the third one too, he was swinging his head around like crazy trying to hit anybody off coming to close, so I left him in charge of the bundle until I actually needed it, because I thought by then he would have had enough of it anyway, and that's just how it was. I spent some time cleaning the barn and the Dark side, where I had the pleasure of being up close with my favourite Hershey, then I cleaned the  barnyard, with the help of  Matt, another Volunteer there, we had it cleaned in no time. After all the chores were done, I spent some time just watching the things that were going on in the yard. Gordon is always on the search for the perfect spot to be rubbing up against to get his itchies out, he usually finds the oddest things to scratch on, like the one time when the handyman was there and he used the table saw blade to scratch his behind. Panne is still on the barnyard side, as is Spice, who is nursing a really nasty sore on her side, the vet was called for that today. Solo's back looks pretty good again, and he almost got rid of all his rain scald. But otherwise everybody seems to be fine, Augusta is still enjoying her new shoes and is so much more mobile and just loves to be out and about. I spent a lot of time with her, as I did with Buffy and Odin, as I groomed those two today. Then I got to the fun part of today, and it really made my day. As mentioned before we are only allowed to feed the donkeys when asked to do so, well beside the carrot treat after grooming, but today I got to feed carrots, lots of carrots, and boy you sure are a donkey's best friend if you have those in your hands. They were all over me, but I must say very well behaved waiting their turn to get carrots. Oh how they love those carrots, and they sure seem to be able to sniff them out from the distance. For my way out I took a few up with me to give to the ones that missed all the actions in the barn. There were four donkeys up at the top of the yard, one being the shy Juno, I gave a carrot to the other three and tried to coaks Juno in coming close enough to get hers. She was very timid and made a few attempts to be brave enough to get close to me, and after many tries and some time standing there holding my carrot and trying to fend of the other donkeys, she made her way to me and took it, but retreated right away again. But hey small steps, one at a time. She really is such a sweet donkey and once she will be coming around she will be just a sweetheart. Apparently Buffy used to be just as shy  in the beginning and look at her now. So it was another fun day with the donkeys and I just wish I could be there every day. On the drive home I  saw some wild turkeys crossing the road in front of me, reminded me of a drive up there a few years ago on Thanksgiving Day, as it has been my own tradition to visit the DSC on that day, I saw a wild turkey run up the street and I thought well here goes somebody's Turkey dinner....wonder if those turkeys yesterday knew that some people have Turkey for Easter Dinner?
