First Trip of the year

Today my daughter and I took our first trip of the year back to the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada. It was another beautiful, a little cool, springday and the perfect day to visit. Our first thing to do there was to drop of some donated books for their booksale for the Donkey Day in June. Then we made our way to the barnyard and looked for our old friends. Hershey was mingling amongst the herd of donkeys and seem to be enjoying his day with his donkeyfriends. We were looking for Fanny but could spot him anywhere, so I finally asked if he was still around and we heard the sad news that he passed away last month. My daughter was quite upset about it, because it was "her" donkey. But Fanny was old and he ended up with a tumor on his face, that just grew and grew and he finally had to be put down. So like my daughter said " all good donkeys go to heaven", so that's were he is now with all the other pets of hers that died recently.
Gorden the newest donkey, who was still in quarantine the last time we were there, is doing great and roams the barnyard. He is a little bit shy, but definitely likes his pets and getting his big ears scratched. My daughter spotted a little donkey all alone in the corner of the barn and after we asked one of the helpers there about him, he introduced her to him and brought him out in the barn yard to roam free, but he was very shy and didn't really wanted anything to do with us. Unlike little Miss Marci, she followed him right out the barn and butted in with us everywhere we went, if we spent to much time with another donkey, she would just come past us, headbutting us,letting us know that she is still here too and wants some more cuddletime. It was quite obvious that the animals missed all the interaction and attention from the public during the winter months, everybody was eager to come close to get some pets. It was so nice and relaxing and fun to be back there and I am looking forward to the next few months and our trips there.
