A Feast!

Watched this little fellow having an early Christmas feast on Dec. 21. At first he was content eating what little seeds the birds had dropped on the ground below from the fruit and seed bell. But soon he wanted more and was thinking about how to go about it, of course being a smart squirrel it didn't take him that long. And soon he was hanging upside down on one foot from the branch to get to the bell and biting chunks of it of and eating them. It wasn't too long after that that he had bitten so much around the hook of it that the whole bell fell on the ground. He of course chased right after it and was guarding it like a pot of gold. No other squirrel was allowed near it. When he was sure that it was secure enough he dug in and he dug in and dug in. He was still working on it as it was getting dark, he actually tried to take it with him, but it was still too heavy for the little guy, and he finally gave up as night fall was quickly approaching. I went outside, picked the rest of the bell up and put it in a secure place to take it back outside for him today so he can finish his feast. I just love watching squirrels. They are such entertainers and never a dull moment with them around. I must have had about 10 yesterday in the backyard just catching fallen birdseeds from under the feeders.

It's making short work of that bell! Was it able to waddle away? :-)
